Real-Time Prescription Benefit (RTPB) securely delivers real time, patient-specific TRICARE pharmacy benefit information to physicians who have the RTPB functionality in the electronic health record (EHR). The RTPB capability is integrated into your provider's e-prescribing process. Availability of the RTPB is dependent on your private practitioner or healthcare organization subscribing to or enabling this feature within the EHR.

If available, RTPB allows for beneficiary-specific information to be transmitted in less than two seconds to providers via their EHR. Your provider will be able to see prescription coverage information and pricing, your TRICARE benefits and coverage details specific to your plan and medication history, as well as the cost to fill at the pharmacy of your choice. This capability allows you to discuss all your options with your provider and make informed decisions.

RTPB shows details such as:

  • Coverage alerts
  • Patient out-of-pocket costs
  • Therapeutic options
  • Pharmacy choices
  • Prior authorization requirements
