The Source of Your Medications

Defense Health Agency (DHA) is a joint, integrated Combat Support Agency that enables the Army, Navy, and Air Force medical services. The DHA delivers health care services like the TRICARE Health Plan, pharmacy, public health, and health information technology to Military Health System (MHS) beneficiaries.

Military pharmacies and the TRICARE home delivery program obtain medications via a contract administered by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). These medications must meet sourcing requirements outlined in federal law. [1]

What causes medication stock shortages?

Stock shortages can be caused by the recall of a medication, backorders, and in some cases, state of emergencies. When these recalls and backorders occur, DHA works closely with Express Scripts and the DLA and their National Prime Vendor (NPV) to obtain an alternative supply of these medications.

What are my options to continue medication therapy if my medication is out of stock?

If your medication is out of stock due to a shortage, Express Scripts will contact you about the option to fill an alternative medication through the Home Delivery pharmacy. While this may be a change in your current prescription regimen, DHA and Express Scripts absolutely want to be sure to provide you with substitutes. You will also have the option to speak with a pharmacist about your therapy options. Express Scripts Pharmacists are available 24/7, 7 days a week to help answer your questions.

If your medication is in stock through a local retail network pharmacy, you can continue your current prescription regimen. Keep in mind, retail pharmacy copayments apply.

Checking Order Status

There are two convenient ways to check the home delivery order status for your medication: via the Express Scripts® mobile app, or online at militaryrx.express-scripts.com.

How can I check the order status for my medication via mobile app?

The easiest way to check the order status for your medication is to download the Express Scripts® mobile app.

1. Log in to the Express Scripts® mobile app and select Recent Orders.

2. The Recent Order Status screen shows you:

  • When you placed your order

Select your prescription to see:

  • When we shipped your order
  • How much you paid
  • How much your plan paid
  • When we’ll process your next automatic refill (auto refill). If you’ve turned on auto refills, you’ll see the dates when all of your future orders will begin processing.
How do I check the order status for my medication online?

To check the order status for your medication online, follow the steps below.

1. Log in to your online account at militaryrx.express-scripts.com and go to Prescriptions, then select Order History.

2. The Order History screen shows you:

  • When you placed your order
  • When we shipped your order
  • How much you paid
  • How much your plan paid
  • When we’ll process your next auto refill. If you’ve turned on auto refills, you’ll see the dates when all of your future orders will begin processing

Once your medication has shipped, you can track the status of your prescription by selecting the track shipment link under your prescription details. It will route you to the shipping carrier site for expanded shipping status details. From there, you have the option to sign up for alerts about package movement, delays, and shipping confirmation status.

All Department of Defense (DoD) agencies are required to comply with federal law and Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) in establishing the contract vehicles, which includes compliance with the Trade Agreement Act of 1979 (TAA). This requires the procurement of federal goods and services to either:
