What is Real-Time Prescription Benefit?
Real-Time Prescription Benefit (RTPB) delivers your TRICARE pharmacy benefit information, allowing your doctor to see if TRICARE covers the medication and the cost to fill at the pharmacy of your choice, prior to prescribing medication.
Your doctor can see TRICARE pharmacy benefits and coverage details specific to your medication. Different pharmacy choices, including home delivery, may offer cost savings.
How does it work?
Your patient-specific data will be securely transmitted in less than two seconds to your doctor if they have Real-Time Prescription Benefit functionality embedded in their Electronic Health Record (EHR). Please note that not all prescribers may have access to Real-Time Prescription Benefit functionality.
Prior to prescribing medications, doctors with RTPB have access to:
- Coverage alerts
- Therapeutic options
- Pharmacy choices
- Patient out-of-pocket costs
- Medical necessity and prior authorization requirements
