The Enhanced TRICARE Formulary Search Tool

“The Formulary Search Tool is a great place for providers and TRICARE beneficiaries to find information about TRICARE covered medications,” stated Nick Milazzo, Retired Air Force Pharmacist and Clinical Account Executive at Express Scripts, “The digital tool provides details about TRICARE covered medications including if a Prior Authorization or Medical Necessity Form is needed. It also shows the copayments at home delivery or retail network pharmacies.”
To start a search on the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool, type in the brand name or generic name and strength of the medication and select the gender and age of the patient. The ‘helpful links’ section underneath the search bar also provides more information on how to use the tool.
“Providers and beneficiaries can also filter and sort medications using the advanced search option within the Formulary Search Tool” stated Milazzo, “The advanced search option allows patients to search by strength, form, route, and type. This new capability provides greater access to information about TRICARE covered medications.”
A medication search will show you:
- Information about the drug and where it can be filled (military pharmacies, home delivery, and retail network pharmacies), medication images, alternate names, and frequently asked questions
- Coverage results and requirements, such as prior authorization and medical necessity forms
- Alternative drug options
- Copayments (if applicable)
Military Pharmacies
You can get up to a 90-day supply of most medications at military pharmacies. Medications are free when filled at a military pharmacy. Find a military pharmacy near you by visiting tricare.mil/mtf.
TRICARE Home Delivery
With home delivery, you can get up to a 90-day supply of most long-term medication with free standard delivery (copayments apply). It’s easy to stay on top of your medication routine with automatic refills and the Express Scripts Pharmacy mobile app.
Retail Network Pharmacies
At retail network pharmacies1, you can get up to a 30-day supply of your medication. The TRICARE pharmacy network provides you with access to convenient retail pharmacies locations in the U.S. and U.S. territories. Find a Pharmacy near you.
