Electronic Explanation of Benefits (EOB) Statements (Available online, anytime)

An Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statement is an important resource for keeping track of your TRICARE prescription claims and costs. You can choose an electronic EOB to stay informed, with secure access to your information whenever you need it.

Why Go Electronic?

Electronic EOBs give you a faster, more convenient way to stay on top of your prescription claims and costs. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Timely communication. You’ll be notified when your EOB is available via email, text, or phone rather than waiting for it to arrive in the mail.
  • Secure information. Your statements are available through your password-protected online account, helping keep your personal information protected.
  • Access it when you need it. You can get notified by receiving a text message or email as soon as your statement is ready and access it online whenever you want to review your information.

You can update your communication preference in just a few steps:

  1. Register or log in to your Express Scripts account.
  2. Go to Account in the top menu.
  3. Select Communication Preferences1.
  4. Choose your preferred communication method: email, text, or phone.
  5. Click Save at the bottom of the screen.

If you don’t select an electronic option, your EOBs will be mailed to you every three months.

Understanding Your EOB.

Once you receive your EOB, knowing what you’re looking at can help you review your statements with confidence. Here is some key information to keep in mind.

An EOB is not a bill. It’s a summary of your prescription claims and costs that gives you a record of how your claims were processed, including the costs covered by TRICARE and what you may have paid or owed at the pharmacy, if applicable.

Every EOB will show:

  • Your name and member ID, and the dates when claims were received and dispensed
  • Pharmacy information, prescription number, and drug name
  • Claim amount, amount paid by TRICARE
  • Claims from military treatment facilities (MTFs), retail pharmacies, and home delivery

Review your EOB to make sure the information matches the care and prescriptions you received2.

When you receive an EOB, take a moment to check:

  • The pharmacy name
  • Date of service
  • Services and prescriptions listed

Choosing an electronic EOB gives you a fast, secure, and convenient way to access important information about your pharmacy benefits. Take a few moments to review it to better understand your claims, costs, and TRICARE coverage.
